I have spent the past month virtually silent about my thoughts and feelings towards what is being called the most important election of this generation.
Mostly because I am not interested in politics, so I tend to skip over most discussions, which has lead to my lack of extensive knowledge of the candidates, their platforms and certain propositions being voted on today.
This does not make me ignorant or just a "stupid youngster." I just have no real interest in politics. But I also have no interest in professional sports. Does that make me ignorant because I can not state stats for players from several teams? Don't think so.
I have recently taken an interest in gaining the knowledge to make an educated decision when voting, instead of picking based on what others have told me. Since I'm not one to follow the crowd, I have found some tension between friends when they hear that I am not all for Obama and his "change."
I was raised in a conservative household. A hard-working family from the Upper-Middle Class that does not believe in unions or hand-outs. But there was never a time when anything my family believed in was forced upon me. In fact, it is a tradition on my father's side of the family to share different views and to have some-what heated discussions about politics around the dinner table. But every evening always ended in laughs and hugs, because no one was judged for having a different opinion. They were respected for it.
However, being a younger generation, my interests are different than theirs and I have taken on some some-what liberal ideals. Mostly because of my stance on Woman's Suffrage and the belief that it is my body and my choice, not the Gov't. I am a strong, independent woman who believes that no role/job is gender specific. I do not "belong" anywhere, especially not in the kitchen. And I will not become some servant to an over-controlling man. But I like to cook and am willing to clean, as long as it is also an option that I work at a real job and do what I love. Basically, if you give me my freedom and do not force me to do something I do not want to do, all is well.
So I researched the propositions, wikipedia'd both presidential candidates and then asked around how others felt. In the end I made my own decision. No one else marked my ballot this afternoon but me. And that's how it shall forever be.
Here's a picture of my Huck-A-Puck with my "I voted." sticker and ballot stub.

Good for you in checking out the propositions and researching the candidates. You are supposed to vote with your head, not emotions.
Thanks for voting!
